It was a snowy start at the Rockland Road Runners’ 23rd annual 5 Mile Turkey Trot. A winter storm clipped the area the day before the race but crews from Rockland Lake and the Town of Clarkstown got out early to clear the way for the 2,600+ runners and spectators. The race was held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28th at Rockland Lake State Park.

Jamieson, 27, took home the top spot for a second year in a row with a time of 25:40. He left a 1:30 gap between himself and the second place finisher, Timothy Boston, 18, who edged out RRR member Gregory Laraia by 2 seconds. Sheila Monaghan, 33, captured the women’s title with a time of 32:05, closely followed by a young pair from Stony Point, Alex Harris, 15 and Katelyn Tuohy, 12. The race saw a total of 14 runners keeping a sub 6:00 pace in the frigid conditions.

The race, known for it’s apx. 500 calorie burn, is Rockland’s largest road race and draws competitive runners and families alike. This year drew 3,220 registered runners with a total of 2,568 finishers

The USATF-certified course gave participants a hilly start with a fast 5K to finish the 5 mile trip around Rockland Lake’s inner and outer loops. Proceeds benefited The Marisa Fund, People to People, Vasculitis Foundation, Rockland Road Runners’ Scholarship Fund and Rockland County Police Hispanic Society Scholarship Fund.
