Harriman Get Away Overnight Weekend

RRR Member Gary Scarano has coordinated with the AMC for a two day, two night WEEKEND stay for Trail Runners and Hikers at the brand new Harriman facility. He will be holding up to 2 cabins in groups of 16 bunk beds each, but if all 16 people stay in one cabin, the cost is only $36-$40 for both nights!! July 15-17th, Friday to Sunday. Please forward this to your running & hiking friends.

The plan is to coordinate events with both Runners & Hikers Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday will be a welcome, Saturday will be various runs and hikes hosted by experienced people (if you are experienced and want to lead a run or hike, please let me know). there may be a special event on Saturday night (e.g. if allowed a bon fire), or other things (Share our best running / hiking stories?). Of course the runs will be host by different pace people and different distances / paces. Here are some initial suggestions:
* About a ~20-mile run to Bear Mountain and Back
* About a ~12-mile run to Claudius Smith’s Den, an outlaw during the revolutionary war that used this area for buried treasure!
* A ~8-mile Hike/Run to Lake Welsh for a swim and a snack
* A 4-mile Hike/Run to the fire tower for one of the best views around (watch out for killer bees, no joke)
* A 2-mile Hike to the crash site of the Baltimore Colts 727 plane

This is the first time the Appalachian Mountain Club has opened overnight cabins in New York on the Appalachian Trail. It will be a fantastic and fun get away.

If you are interested, please contact Gary Scarano at gary@reachoutcom.com.

AMC is offering a shuttle to the Harriman Outdoor Center with pick-ups at the Tuxedo Park Station (7 miles from the camp). This will allow commuters from NY City direct access to Harriman Outdoor Center. For those traveling by car, there will be a parking lot located just below the Main check-in Lodge. If you need a ride from the Suffern Train station, let me know, we can arrange a pick up.

Food Pricing
Breakfast $11.00 (per meal)
Dinner $23.00 (per meal) (Total $32 a day)

Since there will be events during the day, it is not recommend to purchase lunch, which is a simple deli set up for $11.50, but that is up to you. There will be grills and limited refrigerator space for people that want to bring their own stuff. All meals will need to be paid for in advance, so first, please confirm that you are coming, and then you can pay for your stay and weekend in advance. Full payment is due to AMC by May 1.
