BRUCE YANG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2025
This year we were delighted to present the top awards to the recipients of the Bruce Yang Memorial Scholarship to Devon Piccone and Harrison Caprara. Both have demonstrated outstanding athletic accomplishments, impressive academic performance and dedication to our community.
Harrison is a distance runner from Clarkstown South who is headed to Fairfield University. His High School running career was a roller coaster – full of ups and downs. Thanks to his resilience, he finished on a high note, with PR’s in the 1600m (4:26) and the 3200 (9:26) in the last month of his senior season.
Devon Piccone is a middle-distance runner from North Rockland who thrived on the support of his team. Over his years with the team, he transformed from a kid to a confident young man who coaches relied on as the captain of the team. Devon also had some impressive PR’s, running 4:28 in the 1600, 9:39 in the 3200 and 9:52 in the 3K Steeplechase at the County Championships.
Congratulations to Harrison and Devon!
*Rockland Road Runner’s Annual Scholarship for college-bound High School runners is named in memory of Bruce Yang, a beloved club member who exemplified the characteristics of academic success, athletic accomplishments and community spirit. Bruce immigrated to the US from Taiwan at the age of 14. After completing his education, he practiced as an Optometrist for 20 years. Bruce ran over 60 marathons, two Ironman triathlons, swam across the Hudson and had a Black Belt in Taekwondo. He gave back to the running community as a pacer in over 12 races. Bruce’s widow, Di Li and his youngest daughter, Allison were present at Dominican Track for the presentation. His oldest son, Timothy, often runs with us, but was in China on this occasion before heading off to Harvard in the Fall.
