May 20th was a beautiful Sunday morning at Rockland Lake and 335 runners came out to participate in the Second Annual Bill Fortune Memorial 10K & 5K Runs supporting Rockland Meals on Wheels (MOW). For those of you who may not have known Bill, he was a member of RRR who did not take up running until he was 51 years old, but he quickly made up for lost time and established himself as the Rockland Road Runners’ most accomplished masters runner by far. He ascended rapidly to national prominence in track and road-running events ranging from 800 meters to the marathon. We were pleased to have several of his children and their families join us this year.

This year’s overall winners of the 5K were Art Gunther of Nyack, 15:16, and Robyn Contente of Suffern, 20:51. The overall winners of the 10K were Douglas McEnroe of Stony Point, 38:28, and Lindsay Obrig, Valley Cottage, 45:33. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all of the participants.

We hope to be able to present Meals on Wheels with a check for $3,500 after all race expenses are paid. An additional $9,000 was raised through sponsorships and the concurrent walk organized by Meals on Wheels.

As always, an event such as this would not be possible without the volunteer support of so many individuals. Thank you to each and every one of you.
