A beautiful day…an amazing crew of volunteers…a great crowd of runners and walkers…a great way to spend Thanksgiving morning!
The 21st Annual 5 Mile Turkey Trot for The Marisa Fund was a huge success for everyone who participated and for all the charities who benefit from this event. The race continues to be the largest road race in Rockland County and draws runners from all over the country.
A record 3,183 participants, many of them entire families sharing the “Trot” experience, enjoyed the special comraderie that the race creates along with the perfect weather. Aside from some of “the friends of the forest” attempting to join the race course, it was a safe, fun experience. Great support from the Clarkstown Police Department, the Blue Knights, the Parks and Recreation staff, Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps, Supervisor Alex Gromack and his staff helped make this a special day.
My thanks to all the talented and hard-working people who are a part of the Turkey Trot committee. This event is only as good as you are…and you are all very, very good!
The major portion of the funds generated by the race will go to The Marisa Fund, a charity that works tirelessly to support children afflicted with cancer and those who love them. Monies will also benefit People to People, The Rockland County Police Hispanic Society Scholarship Fund and The Vasculitis Foundation.
Had Marisa lived she would have been 30 this coming year…
Much thanks to all,
David Goldwasser

Laboratory tests of blood or body fluids are performed for patients with active vasculitis. Their results will generally show signs of inflammation in the body, such as increased erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), anemia, increased white blood cell count and eosinophilia. Other possible findings are elevated antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) levels and hematuria.”;”‘
