RRR took its show on the road April 14 to compete in the Inter-Club Challenge at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery, Orange County. The meet annually pits RRR versus the Orange Runners Club and Sullivan Striders for a friendly competition and bragging rights for Lower Hudson Valley running clubs west of the Hudson River.

Our club placed third with 106 points and 19 participants. Orange wrested the Inter-Club Trophy away from defending champion Sullivan by compiling a winning score of 208 points and also capturing the team participation category with 42 entrants. Sullivan turned in a strong showing in finishing second with 195 points and 25 participants. A total of 86 entrants participated.

Sullivan swept the men’s and women’s individual titles as Raymond Revell, 40, covered the 5K course in 17:25.8 and Katy Schlictman, 27, repeated as women’s champion in 18:48.8.

RRR was led by Jonathan Farrell, who finished 10th in 19:14.7. Jonathan was tuning up for the Eugene Marathon on April 28 and ran the race as part of a 12-mile distance day! Karen Zdanis was the top RRR female finisher and also won the women’s 40-49 age category with a time of 23:40. In addition to Karen, Rockland had four other age-group champions: Dan Hogan, in the men’s 30-39 (34:58); Enilda Indyk, in the women’s 60-69 (28:09.8); John Singer, in the men’s 70-and-older (24:12), and Marie “Grandma” Killeen, in the women’s 70-and-older (29:01).

Other scorers for Rockland included: Alistair Renwick, 21:45.5, 4th M50-59; Teresa Kenny, 25:51.8, 2nd F40-49; Angela Hanson, 31:48, 2nd F30-39; Ann Singer, 38:40, 2nd F60-69.

Here are the other RRR finishers: Gary Scarano, 22:24.5; Eugene Carle, 23:12.6; Bill Carpenter, 23:25.5; Ed Brown, 24:38; Dave Hall, 25:02.4; Jeff Greenberg, 29:05.6; Kathleen Daly, 29:14; Eric Schatz, 29:57.5; and Jamie Kempton, 48:04.

Members of the respective clubs were encouraged to bring food and drink for the post-race party and RRR obliged with delicious hero sandwiches, potato and macaroni salad. Thanks to Enilda for coordinating our food donation.

Congratulations to all of our club members for taking part in this fun-filled event!
