Rockland Road Runners member Caitrin Demchko continued her recent hot streak by capturing her third consecutive women’s title at the 11th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk, held Sunday, Sept. 29. The race retraces the route traveled on foot by ill-fated New York City firefighter Stephen Siller through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center Twin Towers site on Sept. 11, 2001.

Demchko clocked 20:06.9 for the 3.1-mile course to win the female division for the third straight time and place 10th overall out of more than 30,000 entrants. She won by 23 seconds over the female runner-up and improved her time from last year by seven seconds.

The victory added to Demchko’s recent string of success. The 24-year-old Nanuet resident, who starred in track and cross country at Pearl River High School, won the women’s division at the South Nyack 10-Mile Run on Sept. 8 and also conquered the field at the Women’s Distance Festival 5K at Rockland Lake on July 13. Both races are sponsored by the Rockland Road Runners.
