Race Results: NYRR Team Championships, August 1, 2015

It was sunny and warm in Central Park on a typical August morning. The team was thin this year but the dedicated few showed up to represent Rockland Road Runners at the 33rd NYRR Team Championships.

10 men and 4 women represented RRR lead by Clayton Combe and Patricia Kutner Fiume.

Mengistu Nebsi of Ethiopia and Agony o’ de Feet was the first to experience the thrill of victory, as he used a thrilling late kick to edge out Ayele Megersa Feisa of West Side Runners to win the men’s race. A throng of women, waiting behind barricades before their race, cheered as both men crossed the line in 23:54. Feisa’s teammates D. Degefa Yingezu (24:26), Birhanu Dare Kemal (24:33) and Abu Kebede Diraba (24:48) were the next to finish as West Side Runners placed second to the New York Athletic Club in the men’s open division.

The women’s open race proved no contest as NYAC—led by Allie Kieffer, who finished in a superb 28:49—successfully defended its NYRR Team title and continued its dominance of the 2015 season. Kieffer, a Manhattanite, won by a whopping 21 seconds and was followed across the line by Jeanna Composti (29:10), Marisa Cummings (29:27), Megan Hogan (29:27) and Alexandra Cadicamo (29:30) in an NYAC sweep of the top five spots.
